“It was like something from a movie" - deserted Dublin airport

This was the eerie scene in Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Our sister paper, Northside People in Dublin, received this picture of an empty Duty-Free area, which would normally have been packed with passengers on a Saturday.

Ireland will be added to the United States travel ban list, along with the UK, from Monday due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It was like something from a movie,” the Northside People reader explained. “I’ve never seen the airport so quiet. Not including staff, I think I counted no more than 20 other people. We were literally the only ones in the security hall.”

The reader was flying out to Heathrow Airport in London to catch a connecting flight to Johannesburg in South Africa. He said he and his wife had booked the trip four weeks ago.
