Investigations into vehicle driving through deployed level crossing at Knockcroghery

Gardai are investigating an incident this morning during which a car drove through a railway crossing at Knockcroghery.

The incident was captured on video, released by Iarnrod Eireann today. Gardai in Athlone and Roscommon are investigating the incident which occurred around 10am and resulted in a 40 minute delay to the 9.40am Athlone and Westport train.

Iarnrod Eireann described the incident - in which the vehicle crashed though a barrier at one side of the crossing before pausing in front of the other barrier and finally turning around and exiting in the direction it had came - as "dangerous and reckless".
