In this week's Westmeath Independent

Our readers have plenty to look forward to in this week's edition of the Westmeath Independent, which will be on the shelves in all newsagents around the region first thing tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

Here are just some of the stories we have been working on over the past week:

In the aftermath of one of the most dramatic general elections in recent times, and with Government negotiations still on-going, we examine the fallout from the election result and what it means for Athlone and the greater Westmeath area.

We also assess the chances of Roscommon's Denis Naughten being elected to the position of Ceann Comhairle.

With Seanad elections looming, we ascertain which local politicans are likely to throw their hat in the ring.

Coosan native Bernard Guinan has travelled an adventurous route in almost 50 countries in his time as an archaeologist. We spoke to him this week for our Independent People slot.

The wonderfully creative students from local secondary schools whose Junk Kouture entries have reached the Western Regional Finals of the prestigious competition are featured in this week's edition.

Michael Murphy from Barrymore celebrates his 100th birthday this coming weekend and he tells the wonderful story of his long life to Deirdre Verney.
