Athlone Town announce appointment of new head coach
Adrian Carberry has been appointed as head coach of the Athlone Town's senior men's team.
Carberry's appointment was confirmed following a meeting of the board last night (Tuesday), and it follows the departure of Terry Butler as manager last weekend.
A popular former player with Athlone Town, Carberry had three spells with the club. Known by many as 'Cabsy', he also played for Galway United.
In a statement, the club said it was "delighted" to announce the appointment of Carberry.
"A native of Athlone, Adrian is extremely well known in football circles in the Midlands and beyond. As well as being a highly qualified and respected coach Adrian currently works as the FAI's Development Officer for Roscommon," said the statement.
"No doubt everyone associated with the club, and beyond, wishes Adrian a long and successful stint in his new role with Athlone Town AFC."
Carberry said: "I am delighted to be involved. It is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to the challenge of being the first team's head coach."
Athlone Town AFC Chairman John Hayden said: "We are very happy that Adrian has come on board, and we hope that everyone in the town gets behind him and the team when the new First Division season kicks off in the springtime."
The 2020 First Division season is due to commence on Friday, February 21.
