Halloween water outage planned in Athlone
Halloween night (tonight, Thursday) is the latest date on which the water supply will dry up on the east side of Athlone.
Irish Water announced this latest water supply restriction this afternoon, saying it was designed "to allow water levels in the Annagh reservoir to recover following a mechanical failure at the water treatment plant."
The supply outage will come into effect at 10pm tonight and will remain in place until 6am tomorrow (Friday).
Most of the recent outages, including the one tonight, have centred on the same area between the eastern half of the town centre and Mount Temple.
Residents and businesses in "Athlone town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, and surrounds" would be affected, according to Irish Water.
Irish Water added that a temporary water station had been established at Carn Road, Mount Temple, to minimise disruption to customers in the area.
"Customers are reminded to bring clean containers and to boil water taken from (this station) before use, as a precaution," it said in a statement.
