STORM LORENZO: Community events postponed in Athlone as storm moves in
Community events which had been organised for this evening (Thursday) in Athlone have been postponed in anticipation of the arrival of Storm Lorenzo.
A unique "West v East" table quiz organised by Athlone Community Radio - which had been due to take place in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel and Prince of Wales Hotel this evening - has now been cancelled due to the weather.
"Storm Lorenzo has sabotaged our quiz tonight!" said the community radio station in a social media post.
The quiz has now been rearranged for two weeks' time - Thursday, October 17 - at the same venues.
In addition, Athlone GAA Club said its regular bingo night at the club won't be going ahead this evening due to the "adverse weather conditions".
A yellow-level wind warning is currently in place for all counties up until 6pm, with a more severe orange-level wind warning in effect along the west coast until 6am tomorrow.
In addition, a yellow-level rainfall warning is in place for a number of counties in the western half of the country, including Roscommon, up until 6am tomorrow.
