Wirecutter vandal strikes for fifth time

“Pure vandalism” is how Gardai have described the cutting of wires supplying phone and internet to parts of Cornafulla and Clonark for the fifth time.

The latest in a series of bizarre criminal damage incidents happened on Monday night, April 1, between 9.30pm and 10pm when two separate copper lines on two poles at Drumlosh, Cornafulla were cut through.
It's estimated up to 20 homes were affected by most recent incident, the fifth in the last three months or so, all happening in the same general area. Each time the householders are left without phone and broadband until the problem is fixed. The damage to the Eir lines was discovered by the telecommunications company the following Tuesday morning and subsequently reported to Gardai.
Interestingly, all of the other incidents took place during daylight hours, however, this was the first to happen at night.
“There is no reason or explanation for it. There is no attempt to steal the copper wire. It appears to be plain vandalism,” Sgt Adrian Queeney from Roscommon Garda Station said. He made a fresh appeal for information from the public; particularly from the many householders in the vicinity who may have noticed something out of the ordinary on that Monday night.
