Road closed as Gardai called to serious crash in Tang

There are reports of a serious crash on the N55 Athlone to Ballymahon road in Tang this afternoon (Thursday).

The air ambulance is understood to have been called to the collision which occurred near Tang Church at around lunchime. 

The road is currently closed and motorists are being encouraged to avoid the area if possible in order to avoid lengthy tailbacks.  

When contacted by the Westmeath Independent a short time ago, Sergeant Andrew Haran of Athlone Garda Station said Gardai were en route to the scene but he was not in a position to provide any further details at this stage.
