Fundraiser this Saturday to support local nun's work in Zambia

A charity event this weekend will support the work of a Rosemount native who has been based in Zambia for more than 30 years. 

The Stile Bar in Rosemount will host a fundraising trad session, with music, song, and dance, this Saturday night (February 9) from 8pm. 

Funds raised will be used by local woman Sr Celestine Daly (born Rita Daly) in her ongoing work to promote education and help poor families in Africa. 

Sr Celestine worked as a teacher in Clara before being invited to join the missions in Zambia in 1988. 

She initially thought she would work there for one year and then return to Ireland. More than three decades later, she still lives in the African nation and helps to support young teachers.

Last year, she was honoured by Zambia's president in recognition of the contribution she has made to education.

She was awarded an ‘insignia of honour’ by President Edgar Lungu during an independence day event in the capital city of Lusaka on October 24 last.

The organisers said all support for this weekend's event in her native Rosemount would be greatly appreciated.
