More Athlone water woes with disruptions today and tonight
Areas of Athlone have been hit by another unannounced water outage today (Tuesday), and further disruption is planned tonight.
Residents in some areas on the east side of the town reported that their taps suddenly ran dry at around 11am today.
On the Irish Water website, it stated that "new connection works" could disrupt water supplies today in "Garrycastle Business Park and surrounding areas."
Irish Water said this work was expected to continue until 3pm today, and it could then take another "2-3 hours" before the water supply fully returns to affected properties.
The Westmeath Independent is not aware of any advance notice being sent out by Irish Water ahead of the water disruption today.
In addition, water supplies to more than 5,000 properties in eastern Athlone and surrounding areas are set to be cut off from 10pm tonight until 6am tomorrow (Wednesday).
Irish Water said the restrictions tonight were likely to affect Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, Retreat estate, Athlone town and surrounding areas.
