Housing group to hold first public meeting in Mullingar
A new housing group, which is holding its first public meeting tonight, Tuesday November 13, in the Annebrook Hotel, Mullingar says that official homeless figures are not a true reflection of the extent of the problem.
“These figures are not reflective of the distressed and the invisible in the Midlands; those people who have lost their homes due to the unwillingness of elected officials to tackle the shortage of public housing, exponential cost for rental accommodation and the sale of mortgages to vulture funds. Many of them are now living with friends, parents, siblings, children, sleeping in cars, vans, caravans in fields or quiet roads, in tents, often away from places where they will be included in rough sleeper counts,” claims the group.
The meeting, which starts at 7.30pm, will include workshops on community organisations, housing support and direct actions.
