Teen dies following local crash

An 18-year-old injured in an accident this morning in Bonavalley has died.
The young male was rushed to the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore after being struck by a vehicle at the entrance to the Valleycourt estate at approximately 9.20am. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the crash.
Gardai and the fire service attended the accident scene along with the ambulance service this morning. 
A road closure remains in place on the Dublin Road, around the Killyon Hill area to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

The deceased is not believed to be from Athlone but from the Midlands region.
