Meet the new Miss Midlands

Inquisition with Miss Midlands Eva Dunning

The newly crowned Miss Midlands is Eva Dunning from Mount Temple. She goes forward to represent the region at the Miss Ireland finals later this year.

 

What is your earliest memory?

Probably childhood Christmases – the best.
 

How and when did you first decide to apply for Miss Midlands?

I saw the application on the Miss Ireland Instagram page. Nicola Kerrigan our organiser got sponsorship from Catwalk Model Agency, The Debs Room and Medussa Hair Salon, so with this in mind I knew I would love to go back again.
 

What's next for you in your duties as this year's Miss Midlands?

I have numerous charity events coming up, which will be happening in both Athlone, and Dublin in my workplace. I aim to fundraise for the Simon Community, for Period Poverty, and BodyWhys to promote women’s health and rights. This gives me a platform to speak about what I am most passionate about, and to me, health and wellbeing are pivotal and invaluable. We have photoshoots over the next few weeks, meetings with the Miss Ireland organisation and sponsors, and lots of training for the interviews and catwalk.
 

Did being Miss Westmeath last year give you the confidence to apply for Miss Midlands?

Definitely. I think that bit of experience will help me this year, hopefully to bring the crown home to Westmeath.
 

Do you think it will be hard to balance work and your Miss Midlands obligations? 

It’s been busy but so worth it! I’m really looking forward to working with Mandy from Catwalk Model Agency and getting new experiences.
 

How would you describe your style?

Classic and a bit quirky. I love Roz Purcell and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
 

Favourite place in the world to visit?

My last holiday to Edinburgh with my boyfriend was one of the best. Thailand is next on the list.
 

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I write. I would love to finish writing a novel eventually.
 

Why did you decide to study law?

I was the Moate Community School debate captain and loved English, and I knew I wanted to help people in some form, so my wonderful career guidance teacher encouraged me to transition into law.
 

What do you intend to do with your degree in law from DCU?

Directly, I’m not too sure. Indirectly, I will take everything I’ve learned with me - you look at things a little bit differently after studying law, it’s shaped my thought process, awareness and understanding of people a lot.
 

Name one thing you can't live without?

Dairy Milk and coffee.
 

What would you say to someone thinking of applying for Miss Midlands next year?

Don’t overthink it. Go in with an open mind. Practice your interview and walk!
 

Any special plans or ambitions for the rest of 2018?

Hopefully to make the most of my new title, and do some travelling!
