MOOVE celebrates third birthday with boat party
KAYLEY HARDIMAN
MOOVE is a monthly electronic music night based in Athlone which supports and encourages local DJs & live acts. MOOVE will celebrate its third birthday this Friday with the final boat party of the summer.
MOOVE was established by Kiltoom native and local DJ Clodagh McCann after she returned home from living in London and found that there was nowhere to enjoy electronic music in Athlone. She had already run a successful club night called 'Spiritualised' in London for six years.
Clodagh had to go to Dublin or Galway for this kind of music and decided to start her own party night to give local DJs a chance to play and meet like-minded people. The last boat party of the summer on the River Run Cruiser will leave in front of Athlone Castle at 8:30pm sharp on Friday. The 3-hour boat cruise costs €20 and tickets can be purchased by messaging the Facebook page @MOOVETechnoPARTY or by contacting any of the MOOVE DJs.
The five DJ’s playing at the event are owner of MOOVE, Clodagh McCann, David Harrington, Simon Healion (Nomad), Kenny Tynan and special guest DJ Guanche from the Canary Islands. Guanche runs his own online radio show called Active Sound and plays a mix of house and techno. Simon Healion has a residency club night with Stereo Galway and has supported artists such as Latmun, Tommy Vercetti, Mr.Belt & Wezol and Pawsa.
He appeared at MASS Festival last month too. There will also be a dance act from Laura Brohan aka The Magician which features a LED lightwhip and flow light display. The boat party generally attracts an older crowd because it is over 21s.
DJ Clodagh gives DJ workshops to teenagers and young people to teach them the basics of how to plug in the sound system, explain how the equipment works and learn how to beat match. Last year 17 young women participated in Clodagh's 'Future Females' DJ workshop.
