Good news for Dún na Sí in Moate

Funding for a manager and three additional staff for Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park, Moate will “relieve the present voluntary management workload,” the committee running the park have said.
Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran confirmed on Monday last that the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has provided funding for the extra positions.
The welcome move comes after the loss of five CE workers at Dún na Sí earlier this year, which sparked major fears about the sustainability of keeping the operation going in the future as they were forced to rely solely on volunteers in the interim.
A statement released on behalf of Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park Association welcomed the announcement by Minister Michael Ring in relation to the Community Services Programme for Dún na Sí, saying that it will allow the group “the resource to market and promote the park in a more focused way”.
The committee acknowledged the help of volunteers, supporters, councillors and TDs who helped to secure the funding.
“We look forward to your continued support as we take the park to the next stage of its development,” the statement ended.
Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran said that the funding for the staff, one manager, and three full-time equivalents staff, will now ensure that the project will have a secure future and plans can now develop to enhance it further.
It's unclear at this stage the timeframe envisaged for the new staff to be put in place, however, details are expected to emerge within weeks.
