Water woes return as Athlone supply to be cut again
After a few days without interruption, water supplies in Athlone are to be cut off again.
Irish Water announced today that supplies in the cente and east of the town, as far as Mount Temple, will be shut off from 10pm this evening (Wednesday) until 6am tomorrow morning.
The utility listed the areas to be affected as: Athlone town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, and surrounds.
Irish Water said the restriction was necessary because the dry weather had led to reduced water levels in the Annagh reservoir.
"This action is being taken to ensure that there is an adequate quantity of water available to supply industries, schools, residences and commercial activities during business hours," said Irish Water's statement.
A hosepipe ban is currently in place for the entire country up until midnight on Tuesday, July 31.
