Garrycastle, Tang and Athlone bid for football league titles
The Westmeath ACFL finals take place tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) - with Garrycastle, Tang and Athlone among the clubs bidding to win league titles.
All four finals will be played at TEG Cusack Park. The Division 2 final between Tang and Shandonagh takes place tonight (Friday) at 8.30pm. Both Tang and Shandonagh (runners-up in last year's intermediate championship) have earned promotion to Division 1 for next year.
The meeting of Tang and Shandonagh will be preceded by the Division 3 decider - The Downs (second team) v Milltown (7pm).
Garrycastle face St Loman's Mullingar - county champions for the past three years and 2017 Leinster finals - in the Division 1 decider tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm.
It's a repeat of last year's league final which St Loman's won (1-14 to 2-8) in what was a keenly-contested affair. In the 2017 final, Alex Gardiner was top scorer for Garrycastle with 1-5, with Tom O'Halloran scoring their other goal, while Shane Dempsey (1-4) and Ken Casey (0-5) led the way in the scoring stakes for Loman's.
Garrycastle's only defeat in this year's Division 1 campaign came recently against neighbours Athlone, and now the 'Castle men will be hoping to secure the league crown which would be a timely boost ahead of the championship kick-off in three weeks' time.
The Division 4 final between Athlone (second team) and Mullingar Shamrocks will be the curtain-raiser to the Division 1 decider. Shamrocks secured their place in the final by defeating Moate All Whites last night (Thursday).
