Sports clubs urged to apply for funding
Fine Gael Longford-Westmeath Senator Gabrielle McFadden has said that the application process for the Sports Capital Programme is to commence in the near future, and has advised sports clubs and organisations to prepare for the necessary paperwork in advance.
“My understanding is that a new round of the sports capital programme, worth up to €40 million, is due to be opened for applications in the near future. Clubs and organisations will be given a number of weeks to complete the application process, but they should start preparing for their application now.”
“In previous years, many local sporting organisations have benefited from large grants under the programme including the Regional Sports Centre, Buccaneers Rugby Club, Athlone Football Stadium, Athlone IT and the Athlone Boat Club. A great many smaller clubs and organisations across Longford and Westmeath have also benefited over the years,” she said.
Senator McFadden urged sports clubs and organisations to get started early in their efforts to apply for funding.
“For an application to be successful they must have detailed plans in place and they will also needs some matching funding, and all of this takes time.”
She said that investing in sport is “good for the health of the nation, both literally and economically”.
