Huge news for Coláiste Chiaráin students and parents today

Planning permission is to be sought within the next fortnight for a new three-storey school building at Coláiste Chiaráin in Summerhill.
A site notice indicating that the Department of Education and Skills is to lodge plans for the development with Roscommon County Council was today (Friday) erected on the school grounds.
Coláiste Chiaráin, on the grounds of the former St Joseph's College in Summerhill, opened its doors last September following the amalgamation of St Joseph's and St Aloysius College.
The planning application due to be lodged in the coming days is for a new three storey school building, car parking, access road and for the demolition of the existing school and what's described as auxiliary buildings.
Construction work, due to last 60 weeks, is expected to commence immediately after the grant of planning permission.
The existing prefabs which make up some of the school are to be relocated for the duration of the school construction.
In a message to parents recently, the board of management said the academic year 2018/19 represents an exciting time in terms of the new school building plan. 
“Following a recent meeting with the DES Planning Unit, planning permission is imminent.  We are part of a Rapid Building programme, which means that tenders for construction will begin immediately after planning permission is granted. 
“The duration of the building construction is 60 weeks. Construction of the new building will start during the next school year 2018/19.
