Athlone hit by major water outage
Many areas on the east side of Athlone town have been without water since this morning (Monday) due to a burst water main.
Irish Water issued a notice about the burst water main shortly after 9am today.
Its latest update suggests that the water supply is unlikely to return until at least 2pm tomorrow.
The utility said disruptions could be expected at Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, Ballymahon Road, Dublin Road, Ard Na Glug, Conramaddy, Cornamagh, Moydrum, Garrycastle, Fardrum, Blyry Estate, and surrounding areas in Athlone.
Premises in the centre of town have also been affected by the cut to the water supply.
It was suggested earlier today that the work to fix the burst water main would be completed by 5pm.
However, this subsequently became 8pm and - in the most recent update this evening - Irish Water said the outage was now unlikely to be resolved until 2pm tomorrow (Tuesday).
