New TV3 documentary to focus on 'Mammy guilt'
Tomorrow night (Wednesday) a TV documentary hosted by Karen Koster will focus on the guilt that parents sometimes experience as they juggle work and children.
The show, 'Mammy Guilt: True Lives' , will be broadcast on TV3 on 9pm tomorrow night.
Karen Koster, of Xpose, has two small children who go to crèche, and one on the way. Despite her perceived glamorous red carpet life, she constantly struggles with the guilt of being a working mother and worries she is doing neither job as well as she could.
In this very personal and emotionally-honest documentary, Karen explores the guilt and juggling that many parents experience as part of daily life and looks at the myths and fears around childcare.
She meets all kinds of working mums including those who live away from their children for work, childcare workers and a home-schooling mum.
Karen interviews American Professor Jay Belsky who published a study in the 1980s entitled ‘Infant Daycare – A Cause for Concern’. He believes you could be harming your children by sending them to crèche.
With lots of tears, laughter and many parents' worst fears confronted, Karen brings us on her journey of facing the guilt and fears of juggling work and children.
