Government funding approved for local national school's extension
It was announced this morning (Friday) that a four-classroom extension to Tubberclair National School in Glasson has been approved for grant funding from the Government.
The announcement was made by Minister of State and Longford/Westmeath TD, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.
Minister Moran stated: “The Department has been engaging with Tubberclair National School (Scoil Naomh Clár) relating to a building project at the school which has been urgently needed for some time.
“The school has now been advised that grant for the provision of four mainstream classrooms will be provided. A letter to this effect will issue to the school shortly.”
Minister Moran said he was delighted about the funding news as this was “one of the fastest-growing schools in South Westmeath.”
“The approval is a major step forward in terms of facilities on offer for the almost 270 pupils attending there.
“I would like to thank Minister Bruton whom I have been in touch with regularly on this project and I look forward to work starting as soon as possible.
“I would also like to commend the principal, Oliver Keating, the teaching staff, the board of management, pupils and parents for all their efforts in making Tubberclair National School such an excellent place of learning,” said Minister Moran.
“The school has been serving the area since 1961 and was extended twice, in 1976 and again in 1992 and I look forward to seeing construction start on this latest key project.”
