The excitement is building for Rose homecoming
Crowds in their hundreds are expected to take the streets of Ballinahown on Saturday evening to welcome this year’s Rose of Tralee, Jennifer Byrne home!
An outdoor stage will be erected and a whole host of local musicians are lined-up for the event which will get underway at 6pm.
Local community groups, in conjunction with Westmeath and Offaly County Councils, are putting a plan in place to ensure this is one homecoming the 24-year-old, who attended primary school in Ballinahown, and secondary school in Athlone, will remember for the rest of her life.
“The excitement is building, there is lots to do and a very short time to do it,” said Helen Coneeley of Ballinahown Tidy Towns and Development Association. “But all of the community groups, Jennifer’s neighbours, her friends and family are pitching in to make this a night to remember for her.
“We are absolultely thrilled here in Ballinahown, it’s great for a small rural area,” continues Helen. “She has a large family in Offaly and Westmeath, so we’re going to hold an open air homecoming, and there should be a great party.
“It will get underway at 6pm, when Jennifer will travel from her home to the centre of the village, and it will continue until 8pm. There’s a whole host of local musicians on the bill, and a traffic management plan is being put in place.
