Moate Show organisers hope for good weather
Organisers of the 176th Moate Agricultural Show are hoping the weather picks up ahead of their annual event this weekend.
Some 500 classes of competition are down for decision at the event, which dates back to 1839, and which takes place as usual at The Showgrounds, Moate, on Sunday, August 27.
Speaking to the Westmeath Independent following the show’s official launch in The Grand Hotel on Thursday, PRO Paraic McNeill says that they are praying for good weather.
It is the third year the event has been held on Sunday, rather than the previous Saturday set-up and he says they are hoping to build on the bumper crowds estimated to be between the 4-5,000 markwho enjoyed the show last year.
Once again this year, the event incorporates the Moate Summer Market, which was a big attraction in 2016 according to Paraic, who stresses there is something for everyone at the show, whether you are interested in agricultural matters or not.
“The market was a huge success last year with over 50 stands. We’re hoping for more of the same this year,” Paraic explains, adding the show also boasts a much expanded music section with a dance floor, seated area and plenty of local bands to keep the crowds entertained.
Undoubtedly, two of the main highlights of the show will be the pair of All-Ireland titles down for decision - The All-Ireland Filly Foal Championship, sponsored by Anthony Browne which 20 qualifiers for all over the country will vie for €2,500 prize fund, and the The Easterlicious Teatime Tray Final for cooks and bakers, sponsored by J & M Digan Spar Express, Athlone Road, Moate.
There will also be a BBQ, dog show and showing classes for cattle, sheep and poultry.
