Maryland GAA set for Lá na gClub celebration this Sunday

Maryland GAA is getting ready to hold its Lá na gClub celebration next Sunday, May 7 - with activities taking place from 1pm onwards.

With the club celebrating 60 years since its formation, the event takes on special significance this year.

The new stand at the club's grounds in Drumraney will be blessed by Fr Oliver Devine on the day. And there will be underage matches involving a number of age groups.

Drumraney Camogie Club will also be centrally involved in the day's activities.

'It would be great for as many as possible to come along on the day and join in. There will be activities to keep all entertained on the day. The day is about showing how the club is a large part of the local community, providing facilities and activities to the local community of all ages,' said a spokesperson for Maryland GAA club.

The club's new sponsors, Dr Cuppaige's pub in Moate and Moran's Coach & Bus Hire Ltd (based in Ardnagrath) will be unveiled on the day. All members and non-members are welcome to attend.

To mark its 60th year, Maryland GAA is currently in the process of putting together a club history book. The club is seeking information, such as old photos, memorabilia etc., and anyone with any such information is asked to contact Anthony Reynolds on 086 0851788.

Meanwhile, Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA club is also holding a Lá na gClub event on Sunday, with a barbecue in St James' Park part of the celebrations.

The inaugural Lá na gClubanna events were held in 2009 as part of the GAA marking its 125th anniversary.
