Man dies in South Roscommon house fire

A man in his 60's has lost his life in a house fire on the Roscommon side of Athlone.

Two units of Athlone Fire Brigade were called to a house fire in Drum at 12.15pm today.

On arrival at the scene they discovered the body of a man in his 60's inside the house.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and it would appear that the fire had been smouldering for some time before the emergency services were called to the scene.
