Low temperature alert as snow reaches Midlands
The arrival of Spring has been postponed - for a few days at least - after snow fell in Athlone and other areas of the Midlands this morning (Tuesday).
And Met Eireann has warned that a bitterly cold night is in store, with temperatures here expected to drop as low as minus-four degrees celsius.
The 'yellow' weather warning for low temperatures comes into effect from 7pm this evening and will remain in place until noon tomorrow.
Extra care will be required on our roads as it will not be above freezing anywhere in the country overnight. Frost, ice, and freezing fog are expected, according to the forecast.
Scattered wintry showers are also on the cards, with 'eastern areas' of the country most at threat towards the morning.
Cold weather and scattered wintry showers are likely to continue on Wednesday and Thursday, with milder and more settled weather returning for the weekend.
