100 applicants for just one council job in Westmeath

Almost 100 people have applied for the job as Tourism Officer with Westmeath County Council, it has emerged.

A meeting of the council's Economic, Enterprise and Tourism Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) heard on Friday last that one-fifth of the applicants will be selected for interview.

Director of Services with the council, Barry Kehoe, said the job was advertised prior to Christmas and the closing date was the end of January.

The tourism officer role was being offered on a three-year fixed term contract with an annual salary of €50,000.
