Young man in critical condition after apartment fall
An Athlone man is currently in a 'critical' condition in hospital after he fell from the second floor balcony of an apartment in the town in the early hours of Monday morning.
Gardai said today that the 22-year-old man was in an induced coma at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
It's understood that his fall occurred during a 'housewarming' social gathering at an apartment on Magazine Road, Athlone.
He fell from a second floor balcony at the rear of the building at approximately 3.15am, and Gardai were called to the scene.
The injured man was rushed to Tullamore Hospital and was subsequently transferred to Beaumont.
Sergeant Andrew Haran said Gardai had investigated the matter and concluded that it was an unfortunate accident.
He passed on the best wishes of the local Gardai to the young man and his family.
