Funeral of Athlone's Alfie Nally taking place on Thursday
A large turnout is expected at the funeral Mass of Alfie Nally in Athlone tomorrow (Thursday) morning.
There was shock and deep sadness in the town when news of Alfie's passing emerged last weekend.
The father-of-three, who was known for his involvement in the community and in sport, died suddenly at his home in St Peter's Terrace on Sunday.
His local involvement over the years included serving as a board member of the Monsignor McCarthy Family Resource Centre in Battery Heights, and as a steward at Athlone Town football matches.
Councillor Aengus O'Rourke described him as a 'selfless individual' who 'worked hard on behalf of his family and his community'.
Alfie is survived by his loving partner Sarah, son James, daughters Shannon and April, parents Alfie and Mary, grandmother Josie, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, in-laws, relatives and many friends.
His funeral will take place in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul on Thursday at 11am, with burial afterwards in Coosan cemetery. May he rest in peace.
