Croagh Patrick climb in memory of Tim and Dermot
TWO people who died last year will be fondly remembered by their families and friends at a special climb of Croagh Patrick next month.
11-year-old schoolboy Tim Ross died in a road accident on his way to school near Moate last September, while Dermot McManus from Athlone died suddenly in Dublin last August.
The Climb of Remembrance, organised by Moate Athlone Running Group, will take place on Saturday, March 4.
The event is not a fundraiser, rather it's a way to remember both Tim and Dermot.
Tim's dad Richard runs with the Moate Athlone Running Group and Dermot had also done some running with the group.
One of the organisers of the event Tom Burke said there is huge interest in the group, with up to 100 people already signed up to take part.
“It's a remembrance climb for anybody who would like to go. We had initially planned to have one bus but we might have two or three now,” he said.
“We cannot believe the level of interest in it. Both Tim and Dermot were well known,” he said.
The idea for the adventure came about in September when Richard Ross mentioned he and Tim had previously climbed Croagh Patrick together. It was felt that such an event would be a fitting tribute to Tim's memory.
While the trip has been organised in memory of Tim and Dermot, others will be remembered on the day.
Full details, including a schedule for the day, are available on the Moate Athlone Running Group Facebook page.
