Garda warning to shoppers

Gardai in Athlone are asking the public to be extremely careful when doing business around banks and financial institutions.

It follows an incident reported to Athlone Garda Station on October 5 last, where a local woman noticed a car following her as she was doing business in town. She later parked in the bank car park and carried out her transactions.

Afterwards, however, she left the bank and noticed the same vehicle following her again. When she parked her car and went into a house she noticed the occupants of the car opened her vehicle. Although they got nothing on this occasion, Gardai believe they were following her in the hope of finding money in the car.

Garda are encouraging the public to report any suspicious activity immediately to their local station.
