Documentary on River Suck to be screened this week
‘Along by the River: Discover the River Suck’, a film journey along the path of a river noted for its unspoiled waters and scenic landscape, will be screened in Ballinasloe Town Hall Theatre on Thursday at 11 am.
From its role in Ireland’s turbulent history to its influence on wildlife habitats and its rich biodiversity, the River Suck is timeless as it meanders through counties Roscommon and Galway.
From Lough O’Flynn to Shannonbridge, the river plays a huge role in the lives of the people who live in its vicinity. This film looks at how the river Suck influences creativity and enterprise and how it is fast becoming a top attraction for angling, tourism and leisure pursuits.
Project coordinator, Roscommon Councillor Orla Leyden says the documentary is a wonderful advertisement for the area promoting the River Suck and its lakes nationally and internationally, bringing more tourists to the area for angling, walking, kayaking, birdwatching, cycling and to explore our rich heritage, built and natural.
The documentary was commissioned by the Suck Valley Angling Hub and Suck Valley Development Co-operative Society and will feature businesses and community members who live and work along the river.
DVDs of the film documentary are also available to purchase.
All are welcome to attend the screening and admission is free.
