Three men arrested over early morning Glasson burglary
Three men in their 20s are being held at Athlone Garda station today (Thursday) after they were arrested in connection with an overnight burglary at a business premises in the Glasson area.
The men were attempting to steal power tools, lawnmowers, laptops and other goods from the premises, but were arrested as part of a planned Garda operation. The property was recovered at the scene.
The arrests took place at approximately 4.15am today, and the men are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardai in Athlone believe these arrests are a significant development in disrupting a criminal gang operating in Westmeath and surrounding areas.
The three men are of Eastern European descent and two of the three have addresses in Northern Ireland.
At the time of writing, they can be detained at Athlone Garda Station until tomorrow (Friday).
