Athlone town bridge set to close to traffic

The central artery through Athlone - the town bridge - is being closed to evening and night-time traffic this week to facilitate roadworks.

The closures are scheduled to begin this evening (Tuesday) and will continue on Wednesday and Thursday, from 7pm to 5am each night.

Pat Keating, manager of the Athlone Municipal District, said the closure was to allow pavement resurfacing on the bridge.

He added that pedestrians would still be able to use the bridge while it is closed to traffic.
