Later time for Westmeath v Kildare to avoid Euro 2016 clash
Westmeath’s Leinster SFC semi-final against Kildare on Sunday has been put back until 4.15pm – to avoid a clash with the Ireland v France Euro 2016 match.
The Westmeath v Kildare clash was due to start in Croke Park at 2pm (the same time as the Ireland v France game), but it will now start at 4.15pm - with the other semi-final between All-Ireland champions Dublin and Meath commencing at 6.35pm.
A statement from Leinster GAA last night (Wednesday) said: “As a result of Ireland qualifying for the knockout stages in Euro 2016, Leinster GAA have now switched the times for the Leinster Senior Football Championship Semi-Finals scheduled for Croke Park on Sunday next.”
Robbie Brady’s headed goal six minutes from time clinched a famous win over Italy last night which means Ireland will face hosts France in Lyon on Sunday. The winners of this last 16 encounter will meet England or Iceland in the quarter-finals.
And with the Westmeath v Kildare match in Croke Park now starting at 4.15pm, sports fans from the Lake County can support the boys in maroon and the boys in green on Sunday. A great sporting weekend is in prospect.
