Two arrested in relation to retail unit break-in

Two people have been arrested after €38,000 was taken from a local retail unit over the weekend.

The cash was stolen from a safe in an office adjoining the TK Maxx store in Athlone Towncentre on Sunday between 7pm and 11pm.

The pair, a man and a woman in their 20s, were arrested in Clara, Co Offaly yesterday evening by Athlone Gardai following the search of a premises. A substantial amount of cash, around €30,000 was also recovered.

The duo are currently detained in Athlone Garda Station for questioning where they can be held until later this afternoon.
