Athlone Town U15s bid for place in national cup final

Hectic weekend of soccer action

The Athlone v Mervue clash is just of a number of notable soccer fixtures this weekend.

Tonight (Friday), Willow Park face Sheriff YC – who qualified for the FAI Junior Cup final last weekend – in the quarter-finals of the LFA Junior Cup.

On Saturday, St Peter’s are in FAI Senior Cup action when they Leeside Celtic of Cork in Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore (5pm). It’s a busy spell for St Peter’s who faced Pike Rovers in the semi-finals of the FAI Junior Cup in Tullamore last Saturday only for adverse weather to cause the match to be abandoned (see this week’s Westmeath Independent for report and reaction).

Also on Saturday, Athlone Town’s senior face a long trip to St Colman’s Park to face Cobh Ramblers (kick-off 7.15pm). Athlone are bidding to bounce back from last Monday night’s 3-1 defeat to Shelbourne.

And on Sunday, the Willow Park women’s team are bidding for Cup success when they take on Killeigh in the Combined Counties Women’s Cup Final in Leah Victoria Park at 4pm.
