FAI Junior Cup venue controversy rolls on

Athlone Town FC have issued a strongly worded statement on the controversy surrounding the decision by St Peter's FC to move their FAI Junior Cup semi final clash from Dubarry Park to Tullamore.

The game on Saturday against Pike Rovers from Limerick was due to be held in Buccaneers ground. However, this week, following the hosting of a number of games on the main pitch at Dubarry Park over the weekend, the pitch was deemed unplayable by the FAI.

St Peter's the switched their game to Tullamore - and posted a Facebook status (which has since been deleted) in which they announced the change of venue and expressed unhappiness with Athlone Town FC over discussions relating to the possible use of Lissywollen for the game.

St Peter's, in response, have posted the following on their Facebook page;

'St.Peters FC have read the statement put out there by Athlone Town.We have a massive game for our club this weekend and our only focus is this game. St.Peters FC will respond to this statement with the actual events next week. Paper never refused ink.'

Meanwhile, on the sporting field, St Peter's FAI Junior Cup semi final will take place in Tullamore Town's Leah Victoria Park on Saturday.

Best wishes to the club as they attempt to reach the FAI Junior Cup final in the Aviva Stadium.
