New Easter Rising book by Athlone resident launch tonight

Athlone resident Kevin Jordan will launch his book tonight, Thursday, in the Sheraton Hotel at 7.30pm.

Inspired by a love of history, and his family connection to the Easter Rising, Jordan has written a book on the rising in Galway.

The Athenry native has produced 'Rebellion in Galway: Easter Rising 1916’.

It is the only book dedicated to the rising in Galway as distinct from the rising nationally or in Dublin.

Although Mr Jordan’s late grandfather Stephen Jordan was a participant in the rising in Galway, he insists the book represents both sides objectively.

The 380 page book details the personal accounts and events that led to four gunships arriving in Galway Bay.

The history teacher has taught at Banagher College for the past 28 years and he is now deputy principal.

There will be a power point presentation at the book launch tonight and a talk on the 1916 rising as part of the evening.

The book will be available locally in Treasure Antiques and Art Shop on Church Street in Athlone.
