Darkness Into Light to launch in Athlone

The Athlone Springs Hotel will play host to the launch of this year's Darkness Into Light.

Joan Freeman, founder of suicide and self-harm crisis centre Pieta House, will launch the event with Electric Ireland in The Athlone Springs Hotel on Monday, March 14 at 7pm.

X Factor star Joe McCaul will be there to help launch the event.

Taking place on Saturday May 7, Darkness into Light is a unique, early morning fundraising event which begins in darkness at 4.15am as thousands of people walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking.

This year, Darkness Into Light will take place in over 100 locations in Ireland and abroad including in the USA, the UK, Scotland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Middle East.

The event will take place this year in Athlone, Mullingar and Longford town.
