Contrasting fortunes for Westmeath and Roscommon footballers
Roscommon's fantastic Division One Allianz Football League campaign continued today with a nine-point win over Down in Longford's Pearse Park.
However, Westmeath's relegation fears are growing after Tom Cribbin's men were heavily defeated in their Division Three clash away to Clare.
Roscommon's 1-12 to 0-6 victory over Down is their third win in four Division One games - with only a defeat to Monaghan in their opening game serving to blot their copybook.
Their sparkling form is in stark contrast to that of neighbours Westmeath who continue to struggle badly in Division Three.
A 1-18 to 0-10 defeat away to Clare is the third loss in four games, with only a draw against Tipperary giving the Lake County a single point on the league table.
They are now in a battle to avoid being relegated to the bottom flight of the football league.
Having played Divison One football just two seasons ago, it would represent a third successive relegation.
Westmeath are away to Limerick next Saturday evening in what is now a crucial game, as their hosts also prop up the table with Westmeath with a single point from four games whilst Roscommon travel to Donegal on Sunday.
