Cyclist knocked down at busy Crescent junction
A cyclist was knocked down at the busy Crescent junction in Athlone today.
The accident happened around 11.30am after a car coming from the town direction collided with a pedal cyclist, close to McGorisk’s Pharmacy, The Crescent.
The injured man, a local in his 20s, was later brought by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe as a precaution, but was released a short time later.
There were traffic delays as a result of the accident for some time afterwards, with reports of town traffic backed up to before the Ballymahon Road roundabout at different stages. Officers stayed in the area to direct traffic around the accident scene until the site was fully cleared.
Gardai are still looking for witnesses to the collision to come forward. Anyone who was in area around 11.30am last Friday, should contact Athlone Garda Station 090 6498550.
