New music school for Athlone
The Ravens marching band in Athlone is in the process of setting up its own music school, the Midlands Arts & Music School.
Ravens Corps Director Colm Bolger explained the idea behind the new music school, the plans for which are at an advanced stage.
“We have the chance to make this an epicentre. It’s exciting to have the chance now to expand the scope of music in Athlone for everybody,' he said.
There will be classes in a range of instruments including trumpet, trombone, clarinet, flute, saxophone, drums, guitar and keyboard. There will be a range of classes for adults and children aged six and over. He is hopeful that the new school will be up and running early in 2016 and a range of tutors will be on board.
The bank practices at Our Lady’s Bower Convent every Tuesday and Thursday between 6pm and 8pm and on Sundays from 11am to 1pm.
