Holiday mayhem in Mount Temple

If you’re planning a week away with a few pals and expecting some rest and recuperation, it might be an idea to do some research first.

No better way than to come along to Tuar Ard for Mount Temple Drama Group’s production of “Widow’s Paradise”. Why? Well, let’s just say what can go wrong, does go wrong, in this hilarious comedy.

A wonderful piece of work from this versatile drama group, the play combines great acting, astute production and a clever creative set.

The whole team involved with the production have been beavering away quietly over the past few months, and the final touches are being put together in the final few weeks before opening night.

Drama lovers have given a thumbs up to this play, and it has been a popular choice by a number of Drama groups. Now theatre goers in the Midlands will get a chance to make up their own minds about it.

Set in the 1960s, the Sam Cree play “Widow’s Paradise” has a modern feel to it, with some wonderful turns of phrase and a pace that will have the audience on the edge of their seats and in tears of laughter.

This comedy is set in a 'luxury’ caravan with five ladies embarking on a strictly women only holiday, set beautifully in the Mayo countryside. Among them are Ruby (Michelle O’Brien) a strong forceful woman who has made a decision that 'never again’ is the way forward and is fervently supported by Vanessa (Jenny Cooper) and Rachel (Paula Eagney). However, her friend Lucy (Breda Slevin) has a different point of view, while her daughter Sylvia (Fiona Brennan) is an independent young woman with a mind of her own.

A subsequent case of unexpected holiday confusion, sees the scene thrown into disarray with the arrival of alpha-male Harry (Frank Rourke), his sidekick Ernie (Paddy McMenamin), and Harry’s young son Alan (Niall Slevin). Add to the mix a couple of surprise visitors in the form of Wilfred (Larry Nugent) and Farmer John (Billy Buckley) and there’s a basis for chaos.

The play is heralded as a piece of comedy genius and takes place in Tuar Ard Moate on Wednesday, November 4 until Saturday, November 7. Curtains up at 8pm. Booking is advised, through Tuar Ard, on 090648204
