Exathlone town strikers goals record is broken
Former Athlone Town striker Andy Myler's record for the most goals scored in a League of Ireland First Division season was broken by a Wexford Youths player when he found the net - ironically against Athlone Town - last Friday night.
Myler set the record with 27 goals for the Town during the 2000-01 regular season (excluding play-offs).
A clinical finisher, he almost helped Liam Buckley's Athlone to promotion during a memorable campaign which ended in a promotion/relegation play-off defeat to UCD.
Danny Furlong of Wexford Youths equalled Myler's 27 goal record against UCD on September 18 and then broke the deadlock - and the record - against Athlone Town in Ferrycarrig Park last Friday night.
Wexford went on to win 3-0, securing the First Division title in the process.
