Almost 40 jobs created at newly opened tk maxx store in athlone
Hundreds of shoppers gathered this morning to get their first look at the large new TK Maxx store in Athlone Towncentre.
The local branch of the fashion and homewares chain was opened at 10am by Karen Koster of TV3 show 'Xpose’, along with Westmeath and Athlone GAA footballer Ray Connellan
Nearly forty staff have been employed at the 16,000 sq ft premises which is the biggest new arrival to the Towncentre since its opening in 2007.
TK Maxx said the Athlone store contains over 60,000 items of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and accessories, along with homeware goods. Regular deliveries are scheduled to bring up to 10,000 new items to the store each week.
“We are very excited to be opening up the new store and bringing Athlone’s shoppers big savings on all their favourite brands,” said the manager of the Athlone store, Louise Davis.
Tomorrow’s launch brings to two the number of new TK Maxx stores which have opened in Westmeath this month. Its store in the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Mullingar opened on September 3.
TK Maxx has twenty other branches in Ireland, with another new store scheduled to open in Killarney next month.
Several units in the Athlone Towncentre, including the space previously occupied by Eason, were amalgamated to make space for the large TK Maxx premises. A planning application for the development, by the centre’s Gleeson Street entrance, was lodged on behalf of Stephen Tennant and Paul McCann, receivers of the assets of ATC Retail Ltd just under a year ago.
Approval for the reshuffle of shop units was granted by Westmeath County Council in November.
