Rossies and cavan to meet again westmeath hurlers to face limerick
Roscommon footballers are set to renew rivalry with Cavan while Westmeath hurlers will face Limerick - after the draws for the All-Ireland Qualifiers were made earlier this morning.
The Rossies and Cavan played out a draw in the opening round of this year’s Allianz Football League at Kiltoom – Roscommon 1-11 Cavan 0-14. Roscommon went on to earn promotion to Division 1, and defeated Down in the Division 2 decider.
Roscommon and Cavan actually met three times last year with the Connacht side defeating the Breffni men in the Division 3 League final and in the All-Ireland Qualifiers. Now, Cavan will be harbouring hopes of revenge as the teams prepare to meet again on Saturday, July 4.
The Rossies fell to a surprise defeat to Sligo in the Connacht semi-finals at Markievicz Park last Saturday night and now must regroup through the ‘back door’.
Clann na nGael duo Donie Shine and Ultan Harney missed the Sligo game through injury. Conor Daly of Padraig Pearses was an absentee through sickness, while Diarmuid Murtagh went off during the game with a hamstring injury. In addition, Senan Kilbride appeared to be hampered with an injury during the game.
Meanwhile, the Westmeath hurlers have been drawn at home to Limerick, who were comprehensively defeated by Tipperary in their Munster semi-final last Sunday. Offaly have been paired with 2013 All-Ireland champions Clare, while Laois will take on Dublin.
