Athlone town to face dublin opposition in fai cup
Athlone Town have been drawn at home in the second round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup.
Leinster Senior League side Liffey Wanderers will be the visitors to the Athlone Town Stadium on the weekend of May 31.
The second round draw took place in the Aviva Stadium today (Wednesday).
The advantage of having the game at Lissywollen will be welcomed by Town boss Eddie Wallace as he aims for a run in a cup competition in which Athlone have often stuggled to make an impact.
The club's only FAI Cup win came in 1924.
A total of 32 Airtricity League and non-league clubs were in the hat for today's draw.
Athlone's Offaly neighbours Edenderry Town were drawn at home against Premier Division side, and last year's cup runners-up, Derry City.
St Patrick's Athletic are the reigning FAI Cup holders, having defeated Derry in last November's final.
