Robbie henshaw to officially open moates dn na s next month
Ireland rugby hero Robbie Henshaw is set to perform the official opening of Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park, Moate next month.
The amenity, encompassing over 27 acres of parkland was developed by the community on the former cow park lands on the Mount Temple road, adjacent to the existing Dún na Sí Heritage Centre.
It consists of a series of paths, children’s playground, a wetland reserve and planted parklands which includes native species and bird hides.
Work on the cafe/restaurant building in the park is also underway and should be completed by next month, something which will be a great addition to the park as people will be able to stay longer, and have a cup of coffee or refreshments after their stroll or run.
The official opening of the Dun na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park is pencilled in for Sunday, May 17 next.
The park committee is honoured that Robbie Henshaw, an up and coming rugby sports star who scored his first try for Ireland in this year’s 6 Nations Championship against England, will perform the official opening ceremony. Everybody is invited to attend.
Further details of the opening will be announced in advance of the event.
Since last year, the existing heritage park and the new amenity parkland have been branded as a joint entity called the Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park.
In late May, the other piece of the jigsaw, a €150,000 revamp of the Teach Cheoil and the Scéal Exhibition, telling the story of Irish traditional music, song and dance, will be officially opened by Comhaltas Director General Labhrás ” Murchú.
The opening ceremony in the heritage centre takes place on Sunday, May 31. Again, there is an open invitation to everyone locally to attend.
